Might not look great to you and me, but llamas eat grass and hay. Smokey, here, is too young to handle this big mouthful. He's just practicing. He will depend primarily on his mom for nourishment for five to six months, at which time he'll be weaned. Llamas are modified ruminants with three-compartment stomachs. They chew a cud, like cattle.
